Youth Group Drama Skit

This is an amazingly powerful video of our Youth Group drama skit!

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow wears Bible verse Mark 8:36 written on his eye black during their 56-6 victory over Troy at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.

Mark 8:36 (NIV) says "What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?"
Last week, Tebow wrote Proverbs 3: 5-6 on his eye black inspired by a young girl on the Gator Walk prior to the game as she held a sign with the verse on it. He stopped and spoke with the girl and her family and was moved by her message.
The passage is as follows: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Dilbert

That Time of Year Again

As I sit here reflecting tomorrow's momentous occassion I am reminded of the first game I attended in the Swamp (no it was not called that then) back in 1989. This is the 20th Anniversary of my first game. As a child, my Dad and I were huge fans, but he usually had to work on Saturdays so I would listen to the game on the radio (no we did not have a million channels with every game on it...usually got to see one or two games on TV a year if you were lucky). My Dad had been dating my step mom in 1989 and she was a lifelong booster and season ticket holder. This was his first game as well and it was my freshman year at UF.

The field was artificial turf, a man by the name of Emmitt Smith was the star and we were not nearly as good as we are now, but the memories of the roar of the crowd still give me goose bumps and still make the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. No I am not going to tomorrow's game, I usually try to go at least once or twice a season just to relive those memories and rekindle that lifelong love affair (not that I need it because I bleed orange and blue but it is more like an annual pilgrimage). This is a momentous occassion because we have a chance for an undefeated season (I know we did it in the 1995 regular season but we all know how that bowl game ended up....I know I try not to remember that either). What a way to end a magical four years, winning two Heisman trophies, three national championships including back to back championships and a perfect season. I almost feel like talking about it will jinx it. Here come the GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATORS!

An interesting article on Tim Tebow's faith and how he used the National Championship to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Wednesday's Joy

I enjoy Wednesdays as a rule because of the evening fellowship at my church, the First Baptist Church of Bushnell. There is a family meal served before the Wednesday night service. Ms. Amy has not let me down yet, even if I do complain every now and then when they serve dark meat on chicken nights. Of course, I shouldn't complain but it is a hard habit to break.
If you are in Bushnell around 5:30 PM on a Wednesday night, come by and enjoy fellowship with me and my family.

2009 Repeat

Mark my words, the Gators will repeat as National Champions in 2009. Also, Tim Tebow will win the Heisman Trophy again! We will have the undefeated season that eluded us in 1995, interesting because I saw a story this morning about the former Nebraska running back Lawrence Phillips possibly getting another 25 years in prison. If he had not played due to the numerous felonies he was facing the game might have been different. What if? Oh well, everything happens for a reason and we won the next year with Danny Wuerfell winning the Heisman!

Faceless

I’m the faceless man in the crowd
You don’t know me but you should
I’m the best friend you’ll ever have
The love and happiness you’ve been seeking

I’m the unknown animal in the shadows
You don’t know me but you should
I’m the passion you desperately long for
The primal urge that pangs your soul

I’m the unknown sound in the darkness
You don’t know me but you should
I’m the pounding in your chest
As the blood and butterflies race through you

I’m the unknown smell on the street
You don’t know me but you should
I’m the sweet smell of your heart’s longing
The familiar smell that greets you on the pillow

I’m the unknown taste on your tongue
You don’t know me but you should
I’m the sweet taste of love’s first kiss
The new found joy in a taste so familiar

I’m the faceless main in the crowd
You don’t know me but you should
I’m the only man you’ll ever need
You’ll never know it as you don’t see me.

My Imagination

I close my eyes and I think of your beautiful pictures
Moving faces swimming in my vacant brain
Wondering if I will ever be there with you
Smiling as my imagination is a runaway train.

I close my eyes and I hear your sweet voice
Singing so eloquently throughout my wistful soul
Wondering if I will ever be there with you
Smiling as my imagination is once again whole.

I close my eyes and I smell your aromatic scent
Spinning fragrances rush through my nose
Wondering if I will ever be there with you
Smiling as my imagination inhales your rose.

I close my eyes and I think of your clever laughter
Charmingly ringing throughout the desolate night
Wondering if I will ever be there with you
Smiling as my imagination continues in pleasant spite.

I close my eyes and I wonder of your thoughts
Dancing around your head like a fawn in the stream
Wondering if I will ever be there with you
Smiling as my imagination continues to dream!

The Knight

The Knight by Ed Watson

Reconstructing a life that was once whole
Fabricating the cracks in his coat of armor
Measuring to replace the missing and forlorn pieces
The Knight will arise victorious from his battered state.

Thinking about the Princess in the tower all alone
Remembering her fractured smile…her pain and fear
Compensating for his failures planning to rescue her
The Knight will arise victorious from her battered state.

Moving forward to a life complete and whole
Resurrecting a youth filled promise of hope and happiness
Treasuring a life of joy and passion filled with love finally
The Knight and his Princess will arise victorious from their battered state.

Second

Second

The second hand inches forward tick, tock
The drummer marches on keeping up with the clock

A second is a life time concealed in a moment
Time will not stop to enjoy or relish in it

Second is also a place where I lay in wait
The hunter poised for the treasure of fate

In a mere second our places can reverse
Then I will be the man in first.

Sneaking

Sneaking

Sneaking through this fretful life
Trying not to awaken the monster
Creeping around her day to day
Forgetting how to be self-reliant

Floating as a ghost in this reality
Haunting the memory of my past
Casting a play with all the characters
Rejecting any chance of being in the cast

Visiting with hope and blissful joy
Trying to rekindle the fire of enthusiasm
Returning to the forsaken path
Mending this ever-expanding chasm

The Remedy

The Remedy by Ed Watson

The remedy lies in the absolute truth
The absolute truth lies in the relative power of the word
The relative power of the word lies in the greatness of mankind
The greatness of mankind lies in the strength of his conviction
The strength of his conviction lies in the ability to pursue the remedy.
